LINE DANCE CRUISE, 2011

Just returned from one of the BEST weeks ever, with the coolest group of line dancers and friends! We spent 8 days on royal Caribbean’s beautiful ship, FREEDOM OF THE SEAS. Sailed, ate, danced, ate, danced, ate etc. etc. Great shows, food, activities and the whole ship is quite beautiful.

It’s been a great week, with 22 hours of line dance and parties. And the parties were exceptional. Lots of prizes given at various times, for various reasons, or no reason, and you just had to BE there to get the full effect of our experiences together!

The instructors were Bill McGee, Darlene Miller, Sandy Schoenberger & me. The dances covered all levels. There were many spontaneous teaches, which added to the fun, plus 18 of the 26 listed in the step booklet. We had dancers of all levels on this trip so we taught Beginner thru Intermediate to accommodate everyone. Also had a fun group of Pattern Dancers with us, and they danced all over the ship all week!

Beginner/Improver included A Love Worth Waiting For(full version & AB floor split), Baby Dream, French Toast, Gone, Forget Chu, Love Joann, & Walkin. & Rockin with the Rhythm. Lots more were added just for fun. Intermediate dances taught were Dr. Flame, Jazzy Girl, Just for Me, Sweet Love, Telepathy, Till Forever, The Thrill is Gone(Kinsers), & Years From Now Waltz.

Highlights were our BLINK N’ BLING PARTY, with flashing everything! The dance venue lights were dimmed, the crowd was ready to dance, we had so much fun! Bling and Blink EVERYWHERE! But the KAZOO PARTY topped it all. It’s amazing to see ordinary, mature individuals regress to uncontrolled childhood activities!!!! Once again, you just had to be there, but I was told several times by wives, that I had transformed their husbands into Kazoo monsters!!! Dressed casually in whatever era we liked best, we dance at the OLDIES PARTY to rock n’ roll songs with a couple of on-the-spot teaches.

Oh, and then there was Joann, who led the “wave” to a background of Kazoos humming from all areas of the theatre!. And Neil – his Kazoo was heard here, there and everywhere! Yes, you just had to BE there to appreciate this wild, crazy group!

We also celebrated Darlene’s 60th Birthday, Ed’s birthday and Bill & Linda’s 39th anniversary. I also have to mention that some of our local Lunch Bunch & a few others did Karaoke – or attempted it. Carol’s rendition of “I Did It My Way” from the audience got MY vote! No other comment on this entire activity, except that we wished the Jersey Girls had been there with us!

Thanks to my instructors and all of you for making this a most memorable week. We hope to do it again, but not for a good while, as the effects of this one will last us for a long time! I want send special thanks to the VERY cool men on this cruise! All were fun to be with, and jumped right in there with us crazy women to enjoy the cruise!

Well wishes go out to all those who are scheduled for various surgeries over the next few weeks, and those who have suffered losses of different kinds. We appreciate the time we spent together and hope the future is bright for all of us. Thanks for being part of this celebration of friendship, music, silly things and hysterical moments that will bring a smile to our faces as we remember. Best time on the planet this week for sure!
